The title seemingly done and dusted, this game was never going to be a game for the title, but it was a chance for the team to show they can beat the big boys again, after winning at home against Pool and beating both the Manchester sides in Manchester.
The Arsenal were the most inform team in the league, Chelsea were scrapping through wins in a way you would associate with a Mourinho team. Being a Chelsea match you would expect a bus in this game.
There were four changes from the FA Cup game. Wenger opted for his most adventurous right back - Bellerin - and his most reserved left back - Nacho Monreal - while Ospina and Olivier Giroud came in for Wojciech Szczesny and Danny Welbeck.
Ramsey started wide right with Sanchez on the left. Ozil started as the number 10.
It was the return of Cesc Fabregas to the Emirates, but in that of blue.
FIRST HALF
Both teams started with a high intensity. Fans all pumped up.
Chelsea started with Oscar up front. Sanchez had the first attempt in the game, with a free kick that went straight at Courtouis.
Oscar was clattered by Ospina after a through ball by Cesc, an open goal awaited, however Bellerin saved that with a goal line clearance. Penalty was not given. It should have been.
Fabregas was also refused one halfway through the half, diving after claims of a touch by Santi. Fabregas went in the book to the derision of the home fans.
Arsenal struggled for openings, crossing to Giroud more in hope than expectation at times. But 11 minutes before the break they sprang into life, Alexis picking out Bellerin's excellent run into the box. The Spaniard was at full stretch to cut the ball back and Cazorla's shot struck Cahill's raised arm. Again, no penalty was given.
That was encouraging but Arsenal were reminded of Chelsea's counter-attacking threat moments later when Willian's progress was unchecked, he released Ramires with a clever pass and the Brazilian's flick was kept out by Ospina.
Alexis shot wide and Ozil tested Courtois before a breathless first half was brought to a close.
SECOND HALF
Chelsea started in a more defensive way in the second half. Ramsey had a good chance after some work by Ozil and Sanchez. However the ball was nicked off him when he was about to shoot.
Chelsea seemed happy with a 0-0, as they always are. Arsenal needed the win more.
They plugged away to create opportunities, Monreal crossing for Alexis, who met under a challenge at the near post. Mertesacker had a much clearer chance after Courtois' poor punch fell to him on the edge of the area, but he scuffed his shot wide.
Cazorla was next to try his luck, hooking wide from the edge of the box.
Welbeck brought a save of a deflected attempt. He was brought on for Coquelin.
But in the end it was impossible to break that Chelsea defence with Terry at the heart of it. The racist, former England captain was outstanding, as he always has been this season.
PLAYER RATINGS
13: David Ospina (6.5): Lucky to not concede a penalty, did make a decent save of Ramires.
39: Hector Bellerin (7): Kept Hazard in his pocket through out the game.
6: Laurent Koscielny (7): Solid as usual and even created a chance for Santi!
4: Per Mertesacker (7): Had our best chance, defensively solid.
18: Nacho Monreal (7): Good game again by Nacho. Seems impossible for Gibbs to get back in.
34: Francis Coquelin (7.5): Another good game for him.
19: Santi Cazorla (6.5): Rather poor from a goal scoring point of view. Shots just did not come off. Not his best day we can say.
16: Aaron Ramsey (6.5): Not a great performance, considering his lack of pace it is questionable constantly seeing him on the wings.
17: Alexis Sanchez (6.5): Looked sloppy on the ball. Tried atleast, but things did not work him.
11: Mesut Ozil (7): Some great touches. Tried very hard to open up that stubborn Chelsea defence.
12: Olivier Giroud (6): Struggled to hold the ball against the likes of Terry and Cahill.
SUBSTITUTES:
14: Theo Walcott (N/A): Hardly was on the pitch.
23: Danny Welbeck (N/A): Had an attempt that was saved.
